Nice to see Ross Barkley, of whom I still have hopes, move to a team
that will value him, and play very well on his debut.

OK, what are we going to do about Giroud? The guy barely gets any playing time at club level, but he keeps on accumulating caps and goals. I guess he's well rested. Diabolical MH...

I blame milivella for his stupid scoring system.

How about NT(caps+goals) + UCL(caps+goals)?[*]
OG: 100+42 + (33+12) = 142 + 45 = 187
TM: 100+38 + (115+46) = 138 + 161 = 299
[*] A totally random choice that was not affected by first looking at the numbers and figuring out what would make Mueller stand out the most over Giroud...

I think that scoring system is a wee bit flawed. It does not account
for players who stay loyal to Europa league or lower level teams,
or
those Brazilians, Argentines, and Columbians who choose not to move to European leagues. Plus at some time in the future, the extra teams
might include Mexico, or heaven forbid, the US.

Of course.

I think you misspelled "players who are not good enough to hold a starting spot at the upper echelons of the club game"
If you just counted UCL matches and goals, wouldn't it be a radically different but not necessarily worse game? At least you'd be able to do away with the restriction of nationalities, and avoid the problems you had when you added Belgium...or

Actually, I think that at some point (very early on) we did consider adding UCL caps and goals to the scoring system. We scrapped the idea because:
a) It would have been too cumbersome to keep track of players' UCL goals.
b) Under the original idea of a single game that goes on in perpetuity, we wanted to allow the possibility that at some point the Champions League would lose its hegemony to upstart leagues in other parts of the world.
But both objections are not really relevant today:
a) TransferMarkt and other sites keep excellent track of matches and goals by competition (something that we actually use to calculate our predicted scores).
b) Under the cycle system, we don't really need the UCL to be the most prestigious league in the world forever; only for the next 15 or so years...

And the winner could be a shrewd scout who'd by chance seen a slightly awkward
gangly youth lighting it up for Znicz Pruszk||w and taken a gamble...
