• Lifetime Plex Pass price increase

From Gamgee@618:250/24 to All on Tue May 19 12:38:43 2026
I got an email today from Plex to let me know about an upcoming price increase for the Lifetime Plex Pass... This change takes effect on July 1, 2026 and
the price will go from the current $250 to $750.

Yep, that's a pretty significant change. Current Lifetime members are not affected, and monthly/annual subscription pricing will not be changing.

If you've been thinking about getting the Lifetime Pass, probably a good idea to do it soon... ;-)

If I remember a few years ago I was really leaning towards going Plex for all my stuff until some article somewhere indicated it was snooping around with your data. I can't remember where this was, if it was Slashdot or some other weirdo nerdo site.

Not sure if it really was true, but saw enough people jump ship to Emby and be happy, so decided to hold my nose and jump with them...

I have also heard that type of thing - that Plex "phones home" to the
masters. Not sure what it sends or how often, but my setup is
small-time and I doubt anyone is interested. Haven't tried Emby but I
know it looks good. ;-) Not sure if it runs on Linux though, which is
a must for me. I've also looked at Jellyfin but don't like the
interface as much as Plex. In the end, they all work. :-)

Yup there appears to be Emby compiled for different Linux flavours... I don't see Slackware listed, I think thats what distro you're running?

It seems like none of these media-servers are perfect, theres definately some quirks in Emby but learned to live with them and in some cases work around it.

IPTV and recording my wonderful trashy shows has a learning experience.

I do use Slackware for many things, but also some other distros. I went
and checked, and I see it's available for Debian, that's probably what I
would use for it. Might actually give that a test run when a can get a
    round tu-it.

Yes, I think all can agree on that. They're like cars I guess, everyone
    has their own preferences.

And has likely expanded your storage capacity, too!
