Hi everyone,
This heatwave is terrible. I've been making all of my doctors' appointments i
the early morning just so I can try to get home before the heat kicks in...
Same thing here -- approaching almost tropical temps the next couple of days, too hot to be enjoyable...
Gotta stay cool. =)
I have been trying to do all outdoor stuff real early and then forget
that the outside exists until the next morning. Last night I think it only got down to 77F so it is a challenge.

I do go out and water my plants at night but it's miserable.
It's just getting hotter and hotter. I hate my birthday (August 27)
since it's always miserable and hot.
Definitely. I have three fans going in my apartment to keep it cool
along with my air conditioning.
Yeah. Yesterday I don't think it got to 90F here... maybe 85F... but even then the heat index was ~110F. :( It did cool off some last night because it stormed, but it was still 70-something.

By late August things are usually quite a bit better here compared to
now -- temps are usually going back to normal early-summer temps, the
days are getting shorter, the evenings darker, and summer vacations are usually coming to an end, with people gathering for late-night parties with their acquaintances, trying to grab the last bits of summer before it's too late...
Myself, I'm closing the blinds in my apartment and have an air purifier with its air stream pointing upwards towards the ceiling, giving a nice and subtle breeze throughout the apartment. Not too much, and not too little -- just enough to get the feel of defeating that humidity... =)

It rained a bit here too but the storms are doing nothing for the humidity. I
had an early appointment at the VA today and I decided to scooter home rather than ride the bus. I was a little overheated and sweaty but not too bad.
Glad I'm inside now. My 4 year old floor fan I had in my bedroom died an honorable death yesterday having been on constantly for 95% of my life. Next month, I'll buy another one as my birthday present...

We just had a weekend where the temperatures hit 30c/86f and it was far
too much. Then the thunderstorms came to clear the air
Also in reference to our colder winters, I may comment here but you
won't hear me complain about summer heat. I much prefer unusual heat
to unusual cold. I just try to limit outdoor activities on the worst
of those days in either direction.. B)

Same, but I do probably complain more about the summer heat than the harsh>winter weather. At least with the latter, I know the bugs are getting
I also have a lake (Georgian Bay) out front if it gets too hot, probably
adds to my decision not to buy an a/c unit.. B)
Funny what we get used to though. In the distant past on this board we
used to chat a lot with a number of people from Australia and it was
always fun to hear them complain about extreme cold when the temps.
dropped below 40f, and some had never seen snow in their lives unless
they headed into the mountains.. I also recall a comment from one
saying he was waiting for the temperature to hit 85f so he could go
surfing, since anything lower than that was too cold for swimming..
That said, we all adapt, and quicker than one might expect.. Not long

is not light T-Shirt weather anymore... B)

I used to love the cold. I still prefer it over the heat but with diabetic neuropathy and arthritis, the cold now brings on an additional element of constant pain after a week or so of cold. I plan on buying a larger, thicker winter coat in September as well as a few pairs of long johns.
Where I am, we generally don't get snow and ice until January or Februrary so I still enjoy taking my mobility scooter to the local veterans' hospital I'm seen at. It's about a 10 mile (16 km) round trip which is usually doable but last year, I noticed that I have become much more sensitive to the wind so I need the long johns now. Thankfully, my prosthetic shoes are very
well-built and made of high quality leather so my feet don't get too cold.
I do wear a wool hat and insulasted gloves. I may have to start wearing a ski mask hat as my face seems to be a lot m,ore sensitive to cold and my skin is becoming much more sensative to cold.
I also should start making a Thermos of hot cocoa or beef broth to bring with me to enjoy along the way too. A good Thermos bottle is a real investment these days but well worth it! I like this one: https://tinyurl.com/2trp5xdn (amazon.com).
I turn 53 next month and I have to remind myself that I'm not 18 anymore...

It was 89F but felt like 99F today with the high humidity. There's some pop-up thunderstorms right now.
I hate this time of year but I am happy as it means my favorite time of year is coming soon: fall. Plus is the US' holiday season which I love. Not so much into Halloween but love Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

Last year when my (ex)mate and I were heading to Bulgaria, we were
driving in the high 90'sF and it got so much that I asked him to take a direct route to the next stop. He got lost and we ended up in the wrong country. I ended up with heat stroke

That's terrible. Glad you came out of it okay. Dealt with heat stroke
a lot in the Army when we were out in the field. People just didn't
drink enough water.

When you say scooter, you mean gas-powered for that total 26km
trip, right? What make model is it?

I mean a mobility cooter. It's fully electric. The model I have is a Pride Victory 10.

That one has max 15.50mi range, but your return trip is
26km=16mi ..so, that's borderline getting you home!
And, at max 5mph, that makes for 1hr+ ride one way. Wow.

trip, right? What make model is it?
Unless my math is totally faulty, that's 16km...

I can see why there were issues. I'd have to carry ar least 2 liters of water on me at all times. I'm planning on getting a 40 ounce (1,1
liter) Thermos bottle to make sure I stay hydrated when taking my
scooter to the VA hospital which is a 5 mile (8 km) trip each way.

And after we bust up, I went on a trip across Germany and France to get the ferry back to Ireland. Drove non stop to get to the ferry. Had a couple of wobbles and also almost ran out of petrol in the middle of nowhere. I have seen him on the street but we don't speak

I'm sorry that happened. I've been through that before also.
