• Back to gas...

From Kurt Weiske@1:218/700 to All on Sun Jun 22 20:49:02 2025

My job situation changed, and I sold my BMW i3 EV. I'm driving 150 miles round-trip 1-2 days a week, and driving a subcompact car on crazy freeways with skinny tires wasn't a great experience.

With the tires being special order (different front and back sizes, one manufacturer makes the tires) meant that the tires are expensive, wear out quickly because you can't rotate them, and if you get a non-pluggable puncture on the road it's a day or two process to get a replacement. No spare tire.

I bought an off-lease Lexus ES300h - drives like a dream, uses readily-available tires, has a spare, and I got 52 MPG on the way to work last time.

Just in time for a gulf war and gas prices to soar... :(

They have not soared here yet. Better stock up while you can. ;)

You went from a BMW to a Lexus, and you're worried about gas prices. :|

    Ok, point taken.

I did want to get the 10-year old Lexus, 87K miles, $11k - that's barely
broken in for a Toyota engine! My wife liked the leather in the newer
one. Who am I to argue?

Probably could have gotten a 5 year old Camry (sticking with Toyota engines) with 50k miles for the same price!

I liked you better when you drove a Prius (kidding). :D

Oh, I would have gotten another Prius in a heartbeat - 3rd gen 2014 plug
ins are great deals, engineered well, and check a lot of boxes for me -
and I have a 220 outlet in my carport to charge it quickly.

My wife vetoed it. She wanted something in the family a little bigger, a
little more traditional, and 10 years with a Prius was enough for me, I suppose.
