In hindsite, I agree, but in fact, I disagree: the .can files are located adjacent to the bad*.msg files in the "text" directory.

yeah but msg files are meanted to be displayed, so they belong in the sbbs/text directory

.can files are a type of control file so I feel they belong in sbbs/ctrl

it's your software, though. but seems weird to me that can files are located in sbbs/text

It's weird to me too, but a decision I made more than 30 years ago now and not a big enough problem to change now.
